The Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) Program educates people about disaster preparedness for hazards that may impact their area and trains them in basic disaster response skills, such as fire safety, light search and rescue, team organization, and disaster medical operations. Using the training learned in the classroom and during exercises, CERT members can assist others in their neighborhood or workplace following an event when professional responders are not immediately available to help. CERT members also are encouraged to support emergency response agencies by taking a more active role in emergency preparedness projects in their community.

Mike Winslow is the coordinator for the new Jackson-Madison County CERT Training & Administration program.  He approached LANA about become the first chapter of CERT volunteers in Jackson and Madison county.  We saw the importance of this program for our community and agreed.  The first class completed its training on September 22, 2007.  If you want to learn more, click on the link for the federal CERT website, or click below to email LANA.

Here is the manual for the program.  It is a collection of .pdf files in a zip file, and it is quite large.  Save the contents to your computer and unzip the folder to view the documents.     CERT Manual

Mike Winslow has given us a link to an online test for additional certification.  Remember to print your certificate and save it to document your progress in training.   http://training.fema.gov/EMIWeb/IS/is317.asp
