119 West King Street

Homeowners:  Ken and Donna Stovall

Sydney is in Ken’s arms; Shasta is in Donna’s arms

Built by Hugh Ross in 1905, this craftsman style house was occupied by the Ross family until 1944. Mr. Ross, who was part owner of McGee and Ross department store, located in downtown Jackson, also built the house at 117 West King Street for his daughter. In 1944 the house was sold to Carmack Murchison, one of Jackson’s most successful and colorful attorneys. The Murchison family owned the house for 53 years.  When Ken’s uncle was a small boy he remembers coming to the house with Ken’s great grandfather to conduct his legal affairs.

"Ken and Donna Stovall with Sydney and Shasta"

Ken and Donna Stovall are only the fourth owners of this wonderful house. Donna sometimes believes that the ghost of Mr. Murchison still wanders around, especially when he decides to turn the radio up full blast at 3:00 a.m.!

Ken and Donna feel truly blessed to own such a historic house with its many ties to Jackson’s past and also would like to thank the LANA organization for all that it has done to improve our neighborhood.
