Welcome to the Special Events section.
The purpose for these committees are to provide social activities to bring the LANA area together for fun and festivities. We are trying to have times of celebrating for every season.
In the spring, we will begin celebrating the Season of Carnival with Mardi Gras celebrations. We would like to encourage residents to decorate their homes in purple, gold, and green beginning on January 12, the start of Carnival. The weekend before Mardi Gras, we will host the Mardi Gras Kid's Parade starting at Lambuth University. Kids are encouraged to decorate bicycles, wagons, strollers, or any non-motorized vehicle they want to enter. Families are encouraged to walk in the parade, or to cheer from the side, waiting for gifts to be thrown. Finally on Mardi Gras day, LANA will have an entry in the Downtown Mardi Gras Day Parade. We need all hands on deck to help throw beads to waiting crowd.
In the summer we will have our annual Flag Day Picnic on the front lawn of Lambuth University. Everyone is encouraged to participate in the huge pot-luck feast and sit and talk with neighbors. Take this opportunity to meet people throughout the LANA area and share stories about your experiences living within the borders of these eclectic neighborhoods.
After the summer heat starts fading away, we gather again on the front lawn of Lambuth University to have our fall Pumpkin Festival. Here is a chance for the kids to show of their costumes before Halloween and parents to get ideas for their kid's costumes next year. Area artist bring their products for display and for sale. You can express yourself, with an entry into the Jack-O-Lantern Contest as well. Live entertainment will be on hand for all to enjoy.
The climax of LANA festivities for the year is the Holiday Tour of Homes held every year at the beginning of December. Neighbors open their homes to showcase beautiful holiday decorations. The event kicks off with the "Lighting of the Lake". Candles are placed around the edge of Campbell Lake and Santa will be on hand to see all the children's wish lists. There is also a luncheon at one of the locally-own eateries for participants to enjoy. The newest addition to the home tour is the encouragement of all residents in LANA to decorate the outside of their homes with lights and greenery for everyone to drive by and enjoy.
